Did you know when you file your taxes at H&R Block,Gateway Jackson Hewitt and Liberty Tax, you get charge a preparation fee, which starts at $425 and up, then you get charge a E-filing fee and then you get charge a fee for transmitting the Information to the IRS. So if you look on your return, that's why you are charge any where from$550 and up, which is deducted from your refund.
Also the IRS is really strict this year, if you have a child or children you are claiming this year, you must have their social security cards and have a copy of their school records.
Also if you are claiming self-employed, you have to have a log book, showing what your were paid for and when, you may need to show that you have a business license, you also have to have a letter from the person you were hired by and make sure all their contact information is in the letter in case the IRS wants to contact them and you have to have a bank statement, proving that you are receiving income for the job you are claiming as self employment.
Also once you do your return at any tax place, it takes 48hours for the IRS to either accept your return or reject it. So if you file your taxes on January 30, 2013, You will know by February 1, 2013 if your return was accepted or rejected.
My suggestion is this, make sure you file your taxes with a place or person who will help you with Auditing, in-case you get audit.
Also the basic rate for a person who has a W2 or Self Employed they will probably be looking to get a refund of $3500 to $3800. A person claiming 2 or more children with a a W2 or self employed, the basic refund for that person if you made under $20,000.00 is $4500 to $6000.
You can get more money if your are married and filing jointly and didn't make over $35000.00 and have dependents, you will probably be looking at a refund of $7000 to $8500.00.
If you made over $50,000.00 even with dependents, you'll be lucky is you get $2500 to $1800 Refunded back to you, because the IRS has an Income peak and basically they are saying you made too much money to get anything back, unless you have some property, losses, gains and have a few deductions.
The IRS is on top of their game this year and they are not with the funny business or someone trying to swindle them. Also someone told a friend of mines, that the people who were first to file their taxes, I guess before January 30, 2013. That those people are the ones who the IRS will more than likely Audit, but that's just the word given out by someone at H&R BLOCK, because supposely the want to know what is your big hurry for filing your taxes.
Also if you use someone kid that's not your own or your use your grandchild without written permission from the parents, you will be audit, won't get a refund at all and will be fine up to $4000 and that child you use, no matter who use that child the following year, that child's name and social will be flag and anytime someone uses that child on their tax return will more than likely they will be audited.
